A Vision Turned Landmark
Back in 1992, Lindström was set to replace its old downtown water tower. The plan? Tear down the aging structure and move forward. But Marlene Smith, a local visionary and owner of Plastic Products Company, saw something more—a chance to turn the tower into a lasting tribute to the town’s Swedish roots.
With her generous funding and the community’s enthusiasm, the transformation began. A bright blue handle and spout were added, and soon, the once-functional water tower became something truly special—the world’s largest Swedish Coffee Pot. Greeting visitors with the cheerful Swedish phrase “Välkommen till Lindström”, the towering coffee pot has become a beloved landmark and symbol of the town’s Scandinavian charm.
A Royal Seal of Approval
In 1996, even Swedish royalty couldn’t resist its charm! When the King and Queen of Sweden visited Lindström, the town celebrated by making the coffee pot steam for the occasion. To commemorate the visit, Plastic Products Company created 5,000 model kits of the water tower—allowing visitors and locals alike to take home a piece of Lindström’s history.
The Revival of a Tradition
Fast forward to 2023, when the Chisago Lakes Ambassadors set out to bring back the steam during “FIKA” hours—a treasured Swedish coffee break tradition filled with good company and sweet treats.
Their passion turned into action. With the help of local businesses, nonprofits, and contributors, they raised funds by selling 5,000 new water tower model kits. Thanks to their dedication, the steam will return on June 21, 2025, just in time for Lindström’s joyful Midsommar Celebration!
